Bill became interested into photography at the age of eight, when his Father gave him a hefty Zenith camera which weighed a ton! From an early age, people commented that he had a natural eye and talent.

Art was his passion, mainly using charcoal and pastels, but when he discovered the camera, he found that it offered an exciting new medium. ‘The natural world was full of amazing colours and textures and here was a new way to capture them.’

In his late teens he was accepted due to his work in art and photography, at Glasgow school of art, but influenced by his father he turned down the offer. Bill has absolutely no regrets about this turn of events, for he does now wander how attending the Glasgow School, might have negatively influenced his natural style of photography.

In his early 20s he was actually offered money for his work! Lanark Tourist Board commissioned him to do the photography for their latest tourism leaflet.  This was a huge confidence booster and he began to believe in his own talent,  realising that he may be able to make a career from his art.

In the old days weddings were formal and the expected photography was equally starched. Lines of people outside a church with forced smiles.  Bill agreed to do one wedding many years ago and swore he would never do it again.

Then, just six years ago he was approached by a bride to be and asked to do her wedding photos. She had seen the photos on his web site and liked the natural comfortable style of his work. She explained that she didn’t want the formal style of photography, being told what to do and where to stand. After much communication and chasing, Bill finally relented and said he would do it, if she agreed that he could just turn up and ‘do his thing, in his own way’. He demanded written proof that she wouldn’t sue him if she didn’t like the photographs!!

The wedding took place on a beach at a beautiful castle on the Mull of Kintyre. It was simply perfect.

Bill was delighted with the resulting images and the couple absolutely adored them.

From then on, word of mouth has spread and the world of Wedding photography is now changed forever
